Look-alike flags: how to tell them apart
In a flag quiz, the same pairs always cost points. Here are the most famous ones, with the difference to remember.
Indonesia and Monaco
Both flags are a red band over a white band. The difference: Monaco's flag is squarer (4:5 proportions), Indonesia's is longer (2:3). Poland's flag is the other way round: white on top, red below.
Romania and Chad
Three vertical bands of blue, yellow and red on both flags. Chad's blue is darker (an indigo blue). Andorra and Moldova also have blue, yellow and red bands, but with a coat of arms in the centre.
Ireland and Côte d'Ivoire
Green, white and orange in both cases, but in reverse order: Ireland has green next to the pole, Côte d'Ivoire has orange next to the pole.
Netherlands and Luxembourg
Three horizontal bands of red, white and blue. Luxembourg's blue is a lighter sky blue, and its flag is longer than the Dutch one.
Australia and New Zealand
Blue background with the Union Jack in the top-left corner. Australia has six white stars (the Southern Cross and a large star under the Union Jack). New Zealand has four red stars edged in white.
Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador
Three horizontal bands of yellow, blue and red. In Colombia the yellow band is twice as wide and there is no emblem. Ecuador has the same design with a coat of arms in the centre. Venezuela has three equal bands and an arc of eight stars in the blue band.
Senegal, Mali and Guinea
Senegal and Mali: green, yellow, red. Senegal has a green star in the centre, Mali has none. Guinea has the same colours in reverse order: red, yellow, green.
Norway and Iceland
Two Nordic crosses. Norway: red background, blue cross edged in white. Iceland: blue background, red cross edged in white.
